Spanish

As the largest foreign language program at Iowa State University, the Spanish program offers a broad variety of academic, social, and cultural resources that expand your understanding of the language and culture. Spanish majors and minors often combine their Spanish degrees with teaching certificates and second majors. In addition to basic language and composition courses, you will select advanced courses that support your particular emphasis in literature, language, or culture, as well as professional communication. A broad faculty base allows the program to offer a very diverse range of courses, from business Spanish to women's literature. Many faculty members coordinate study abroad opportunities in one of several Iowa State sponsored study abroad programs in Spain, Bolivia, Mexico, or other countries of Latin America. Students in Spanish also have the opportunity to participate in professional organizations and clubs such as Sigma Delta Pi, and social groups such as the Spanish Club.
