Short Courses (non-credit) for Faculty, Staff and CommunityEach fall and spring, the Department of World Languages and Cultures offers Iowa State University faculty, staff, students, and members of the Ames community the opportunity to study foreign languages in a non-credit format. These short courses aim to provide basic and intermediate language instruction with emphasis on the cultural context in which the languages are spoken. The goal for many students in the short courses is to learn the language in order to facilitate travel and research abroad. The short courses entail 24 hours of classroom instruction in either a six-week or eight-week format. Class size is limited to twenty students to allow for small group interaction.
