B.A. in Russian StudiesThe Russian Studies Program offers a flexible interdepartmental major and minor in Russian Studies. These plans consist of core courses in Russian language and composition, along with a variety of courses in Russian culture, literature, language for professions, history, political science, religion, and economics. While planning their academic programs, students may select courses from all the disciplines represented in the major or they may concentrate on one or two disciplines. In addition to courses dedicated to Russia's past and present, the Russian Studies Program also offers courses with a broad trans-regional focus. As part of the REEES Distance Learning Consortium (in partnership with the Department of World Languages and Cultures at Iowa State University and the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Northern Iowa) the Russian Studies Program has recently introduced a series of courses on the languages, histories, and cultures of the countries within the former Soviet bloc, including Central Asia. The Program also offers various internships and study abroad opportunities in Minsk, Belarus and St. Petersburg, Russia. A wide range of academic options is complemented by many social events organized by the Russian, Eurasian, and East European Club, such as concerts, movie nights, poetry readings, and lectures (including lectures and presentations by the scholars from the region). 2007-2009 CatalogThis information is from the 2007-2009 ISU Catalog.
