langCasts

What are langCasts?
langCasts are brief audio experiences in a particular language whose main goal is language learning. Similar to our previous podcasts, langCasts are short in duration but they focus on a particular language. langCasts may emphasize a cultural or linguistic feature of the languages you can study at ISU.

Chinese langCast

Each of our langcasts focuses on a particular language. This langCast focuses on Chinese. If you would like to learn more about the ISU Chinese program, please listen to the additional podcast available through this same feed.

WLC Podcasts

Teacher Education Program

If you are interested in becoming a foreign language teacher, whether in the elementary school, middle school or high school level, Iowa State University has great programs that can prepare you for your future. Iowa State’s Teacher Education Program has the mission to "develop educators who are competent, qualified, and caring." In order to accomplish this, prospective teachers must complete various courses directly related to the teaching field. This podcast will give you important information related to language teacher education at ISU.

REEES Program

The REEES Program is the result of a partnership between Iowa State University, University of Iowa, and University of Northern Iowa, where they jointly teach Eastern European languages and culture via an Internet-based video conferencing system. It is a very interesting and diverse program, which offers various language courses in Eastern European languages.

Languages and Cultures for the Professions

The Language and Cultures for Professions (LCP) major trains language, business and engineering students to work within the demanding global marketplace by strengthening language skills and improving professional and cultural knowledge.

Classical Studies

The major in Classical Studies, one of the most interdisciplinary fields in the humanities, provides an understanding of how language, politcs, history, material culture and art are all inextricably connected. This exciting ISU program will take you on an exploration of all aspects of the Greco-Roman world through classes featuring the study of language, literature, archaeology, social and political constructs, religion, art, history, and philosophy.

Russian Studies

Iowa State University offers a B.A. in Russian Studies that encompasses a variety of courses that focus in interesting areas, ranging from the study of Russian language, history, culture, and literature, to religion, political science and economics. The courses review subjects from even the former Soviet nations. A Minor in Russian Studies is also available.

Spanish Program

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Iowa State University offers an extensive array of Spanish courses including grammar and composition, conversation, culture, history, and literature. The opportunities range from courses that focus on culture and civilizations of Spain and Latin America, Women in Literature, Film, Translation, Phonetics, to internships abroad.
