Interests

Professor Gasta's research and teaching expertise is related to transatlantic approaches to early modern Spanish and Latin American studies. He has lectured and published on theater, opera, art, Cervantes, the picaresque, and other related areas of early modern Spain and Latin America. He also researches contemporary issues in Spain such as immigration and entrepreneurship as well as ISU undergraduates' socio-cultural awareness about Spain garnered through their participation in study abroad. In 2005 he was awarded the Iowa State University Foundation Award for Early Achievement in Teaching, the College of Liberal Arts & Science’s Early Achievement in Teaching Award, and the Cassling Family Award. In 2008 he was named a Master Teacher.
