Rachel Meyers, Ph.DLecturer Program/s
InterestsI have diverse research interests in the material culture, language, and literature of Classical antiquity. In broad terms, I focus my research and teaching in the areas of sculpture and architecture, numismatics, women and gender, social history, imperial propaganda. More specifically, I have interests in the time periods of Augustus and the Antonines, the archaeology and history of the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and portraits of women. In my dissertation I examine different types of objects—coins, marble portraits, inscriptions, and architectural sculpture—in order to create an overall idea of how three Antonine empresses were represented publicly.
