Beth Martin

Lecturer

After graduating from Wartburg College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and German, I moved to Bonn, Germany to continue my studies of Germanistik. While in Bonn, I explored several career directions: translation (of research articles into English for the Pharmacological Institute at the University of Bonn), journalism (CBS News Office) and teaching. Returning to the US in 1982, I accepted a teaching assistantship at Penn State. This provided me the opportunity to gather data for my master's thesis on various teaching techniques and motivation in the foreign language classroom. In 1997, my family and I moved to Heidelberg, Germany. While there, I worked as a free-lance translator of social science research and also taught German for the University of Maryland, European Division. We have lived in Ames (again) since August, 2000. I play the violin and enjoy gardening.
