ProjectsHorizon Wimba's Voice ToolsThis project added voice capabilities to WebCT. The Voice Tools have expanded the capabilities of WebCT, a course management system that has been in use at ISU since 1998, and that has already been widely adopted by the university community. The Voice Tools are a promising extension of the capabilities of WebCT that may enhance the pedagogical possibilities of this environment. Mobile Language EnvironmentThe purpose of the language microstudio is to enhance the quality of instruction by bringing effective and relevant technologies into the classrooms where languages and cultures are taught. The LM will enable the creation of richer learning experiences for language learners. The language microstrudio (LM) is a modular system that was based on the design of a successful wireless, portable system (the Microstudio), which was conceived for use in the Engineering Distance Education Program and was also successfully adopted in Agriculture. Online Beginning LatinThis proposal has funded the creation of the first two online language classes offered at ISU: Latin 101 and Latin 102. This project has enabled students to begin or continue their study off-calendar; and will fill a growing demand for precollege Latin study. Latin 101 online was first offered in the summer of 2006. langCasts: Experiencing languages through ISU podcasts This project was a collaborative effort to establish the first ISU podcast service geared towards the recruitment of high-school graduates and first- and second-year ISU students into language learning. As part of this project, MP3 players were made available through the LSRC and informational podcasts were created and published. Detailed information on this project is available here. |
