If you're looking to spell check in German, you should give Deutsche Grammatik, Online a shot. It can be found at <http://www.canoo.net/>. A direct link to the spell checker is here. The power of this spell checking site comes in the color-coded categories of information it gives you on your input. Green, for instance, signifies "richtig" (correct) phrases based on the Neue Rechtschreibung (new orthography rules). Red then, as one might expect, corresponds to "falsch" (wrong) words that are recognized by the checker, but do not conform to the Neue Rechtschreibung (new orthography rules). Unknown ("unbekannt") words, then, return yellow signifying that the spell checker has no idea what you're trying to say, which is usually caused by a completely incorrect spelling or a typo.
